Donald W. Buck II, MD, is a plastic and reconstructive surgeon at Christian Hospital, serving patients from the St. Louis Metropolitan Area including St. Louis County, St. Charles County and Southern Illinois. He is an assistant professor in the Division of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery at the Washington University School of Medicine. Dr. Buck specializes in all aspects of plastic and reconstructive surgery including complex microsurgical reconstruction and cosmetic surgery of the face, breast and body. Dr. Buck has been invited to present at numerous national and international meetings. He is an invited reviewer for Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and the Journal of Plastic Reconstructive & Aesthetic Surgery.
Dr. Buck has authored over 45 articles in peer-reviewed journals, as well as numerous book chapters for authoritative texts in the field. He is also the invited editor of a major plastic and reconstructive surgery electronic textbook – Core Procedures in Plastic Surgery - which is an electronic and print companion to the respected textbook.
Dr. Buck received his undergraduate degree with highest distinction from Indiana University where he received awards for his athletic and scholastic achievement, including Sports Illustrated Scholar Athlete of the Year. While at Indiana he was a middle linebacker on the Indiana University football team under Coach Cam Cameron. After graduating from Indiana, he attended the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Upon receiving his medical degree, Dr. Buck was accepted into the seven-year Integrated Plastic Surgery Residency Training Program at Northwestern University in Chicago, Illinois. During his residency training, Dr. Buck received many awards and accolades including the national David C. Leach Award for outstanding contributions to residency education, the Exemplary Resident Teaching Award, and the American Society of Maxillofacial Surgeons Resident Scholar Award. He was selected as the only resident member to the Plastic Surgery Residency Review Committee, the accrediting body overseeing all Plastic Surgery Residency and Fellowship Programs, and the Advisory Council to Plastic & Maxillofacial Surgery within the American College of Surgeons.
Following his plastic surgery training at Northwestern University, Dr. Buck was accepted, out of applicants worldwide, into the Reconstructive Microsurgery Fellowship program at the University of Toronto in Canada. While in Toronto, Dr. Buck perfected advanced microsurgical techniques including perforator flaps (DIEP, SIEA, SGAP, ALT, and Fibula flaps) for treating complex reconstructive problems under the tutelage of Stefan Hofer, MD, PhD.
Dr. Buck’s interests include microsurgery, breast surgery and microsurgical breast reconstruction, cancer reconstruction (including head and neck reconstruction, skin cancer excision/reconstruction, and Mohs reconstruction), complex nasal reconstruction, aesthetic surgery of the face (facelift, rhinoplasty, blepharoplasty, brow lift), breast (augmentation, mastopexy, reduction), and body (abdominoplasty, mommy-make over, body contouring after weight loss), surgical treatment of lymphedema and migraines, as well as trauma reconstruction (complex lacerations, facial fractures, hand/extremity fractures and trauma reconstruction), orthognathic/jaw surgery, complex abdominal wall reconstruction, and wound care/reconstruction.
